Golden Days as a Communication Medium: The Case of Turkey
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study examines the role of “gold days”—which hold an important place in women’s social lives—as a forum for communication. These gatherings, where women come together at specific intervals, are not merely intended for leisure; they also provide opportunities for socialization, a respite from the stresses of daily life, and self-expression. Attended by women with similar socioeconomic, cultural, and educational backgrounds, “gold days” stand out as social spaces where neighborly and kinship ties in Turkish culture are maintained, feelings and thoughts are shared, and mutual communication is established. In this context, a study conducted in Bitlis using a semi-structured interview technique with women participating in “Golden Days” concluded that these gatherings play an important role in meeting women’s communication needs and contribute to the socialization process.
