Sulong Kabuhayan: A Gad-Initiated Livelihood Program for Empowering CSU Employees

Abstract

This study explored how a Gender and Development (GAD) initiated Livelihood Program has been developed to strengthen the Economic Resilience and Empowerment of Cagayan State University (CSU) employees. With recent trends in a growing number of financial pressures faced by university personnel, the Sulong Kabuhayan Livelihood program provides a pathway for employees to develop skills that will allow them to generate income. Participants in the program is trained in Food Protection and Processing, Electronics Repair, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Maintenance, Sewing and Fashion Design, Automotive Repair, and Safe Driving. The study employed a Descriptive Research Design and Data were analysed using Descriptive Statistics and Chi-square analysis to determine CSU Employees' Employment Profiles, Preferred Livelihood Activities, Primary Requirements for Starting a Livelihood Activity, and the Rationale for Enrolling in the Livelihood Program. The findings of the Data are to be utilized in the Development of an Action Plan for the implementation and sustainability of Sulong Kabuhayan Program for CSU Employees. This study has emphasised the importance of Institutional Support for the Development of Livelihood for the provision of Inclusive, Gender-Sensitive, Self-Sufficiency and Growth Opportunities for CSU employees.
