Abstract

The pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) rests on a foundational assumption: that intelligence can be fully captured by mathematical models and computational architectures. This paper challenges that assumption by examining the inherent limitations of algorithmic systems in grasping the Dao a concept central to classical Chinese philosophy that denotes the fundamental, ineffable way of the universe. Drawing on insights from mathematical incompleteness, computational theory, and Daoist epistemology, we argue that AGI, as currently conceived, faces structural barriers that preclude genuine engagement with the ineffable dimensions of reality. Through a multi-disciplinary framework combining formal proofs of semantic closure with Daoist critiques of prediction-based cognition, we demonstrate that the gap between algorithmic simulation and authentic understanding is not merely technical but ontological. Our analysis suggests that the most profound aspects of intelligence generativity, coordination, and sustaining identity across time remain inaccessible to mathematical formalization, positioning human cognition as irreplaceable in domains requiring wisdom rather than mere computation.
