Exploration of the Revitalization of Javanese Moral Values in the Character Formation of Adolescents Today: A Preliminary Study with a Questionnaire

Abstract

This study reveals that the results of quantitative analysis show that the three Javanese ethical values—Tepa Selira (3.444), Andhap Asor (3.421), and Gotong Royong (3.404)—fall into the medium to high category among adolescents. However, the application of these values in adolescents' daily behavior in coastal communities is still not entirely consistent. Qualitative analysis shows that the role of parents and community leaders is crucial in instilling and strengthening these values, particularly through example and active involvement in social life. These ethical values have proven to remain relevant and serve as a strong moral foundation for shaping morally upright adolescents amid the challenges of modernization. These findings provide a foundation for designing character education programs based on local wisdom, particularly Javanese ethical values, which can strengthen the cultural and moral identity of the younger generation in coastal communities.
