The Effect of Guided Free Writing Strategy on Enhancing Critical Writing Skills Among Eighth Grade Female Students in Jordan

Abstract
The present study was intended to examine the impact of the guided free writing technique on enhancing critical writing ability of female students in the eighth grade in Jordan. In order to accomplish this aim, a test that assesses the performance in specific critical writing skills was developed: inference and argumentation. The study sample comprised of (73) female students from the eighth grade at Al-Karameh Basic Co-educational School and Ruqayya Bint Al-Rasool Basic Co-educational School for the second semester of the 2025/2026 school year, using a convenience sampling technique. Two sections were randomly selected, one section of (38) students were taught the guided free writing strategy, while the second section of (35) students were taught the conventional method and served as the control group for the study at Ruqayya Bint Al-Rasool Basic Co-educational School.The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the improvement of the experimental group's Critical Writing skills individually and together compared with the control group. Based on the results of this study, it was recommended to integrate the guided free writing strategy into the teaching of the critical writing skills (inference and argumentation) and training the teachers of Arabic language in the implementation of this strategy.
