Transitional Justice in the Context of the Syrian Conflict: Lessons Learned from International Experiences

Abstract

The process of transitional justice in Syria constitutes a fundamental pathway toward rebuilding the state and society after decades of authoritarianism and repression.

Despite the profound challenges facing the emerging Syrian state, no process of justice or reconciliation can succeed without impartial national institutions and peaceful mechanisms that ensure equal justice for all citizens. Transitional justice in Syria represents a long-term national endeavor aimed at repairing the social fabric, restoring trust between citizens and the state, and reestablishing social, cultural, and economic balance. It is not merely a response to past injustices but a forward-looking project essential for establishing sustainable peace, justice, and the rule of law in the new Syria.
