POSTMODERN CONSCIOUSNESS AND SOCIAL REALITY IN CONTEMPORARY HINDI POETRY

Abstract

This research study focuses on the theme of "Postmodern Consciousness and Social Reality in Contemporary Hindi Poetry." Postmodernism is a significant intellectual trend that emerged in the latter half of the twentieth century; it challenged established paradigms of modernity, universal truths, and linear perspectives, while prioritizing plurality, identity, fragmentation, and diversity. Forces such as globalization, liberalization, marketization, consumerism, and the advancement of information technology have profoundly influenced social structures and human values—impacts that are clearly reflected in contemporary Hindi poetry. The objective of this study is to examine the postmodern trends present in contemporary Hindi poetry and to analyze the influence of postmodernism on the genre. The study employs a qualitative and analytical research methodology, involving an examination of the poems, collections, and relevant critical literature of selected poets. Textual and content analysis methods have been used to analyze the material. The study reveals that themes such as globalization, marketization, displacement, a sense of alienation, political incongruities, women's identity, Dalit consciousness, social justice, and the crisis of human values ​​have emerged prominently in contemporary Hindi poetry. While realistically portraying the social, economic, political, and cultural challenges of their times, contemporary poets have also given voice to a consciousness of resistance, awareness, and change. In conclusion, contemporary Hindi poetry serves as a powerful document of the interrelationship between postmodern consciousness and social reality, playing a significant role in understanding the complexities of present-day society.
