Historical Inscriptions of the Arabic Script in the Regions of al-Hira, the Nabataeans, and Their Surroundings

Abstract

Inscriptions are among the most prominent features of the kingdoms of al-Hira and the Nabataeans. Their importance stems from being among the foremost sources for Arab history, as they contain historical texts that show these two kingdoms employed the Arabic script in its earliest formative stage. They thus represent a symbol of the manifestations of Arab human civilization and a historical record of those ancient civilizations and their cultures. From this arises the importance of the present research in studying and discussing these inscriptions.
