Abstract

The topics of coordination (waṣl) and disjunction (faṣl) are among the most intricate subjects in the science of Maʿānī (semantics and rhetoric), as they address the principles governing whether sentences should be linked together or separated according to the context requirement. This subject attracted the attention of rhetoricians as (ʿAbd al-Qāhir al-Jurjānī), followed by (al-Sakkākī) and (al-Qazwīnī), and later (al-Taftazani), who is considered the most prominent scholar of the commentary tradition. The present study examines his contribution to the discussion of coordination and disjunction in his commentary on Miftāḥ al-ʿUlūm.
