Abstract

Abstract: The concept of social justice is intrinsic to the Indian Constitution and aims at providing equality, dignity, and equal opportunities to all citizens irrespective of their caste, religion, gender, socio-economic background or the objects of their choice of residence. Although there are constitutional protections, institutionalized social injustices keep affecting the lives and attitudes of students in their course of education. The paper will discuss social justice and how social-cultural elements such as religious, educational, caste, socio-economic, residential and gender backgrounds influence the social-justice nature of Indian college students. It also looks into the concerned literature, provides national statistics on any kind of social inequalities, barriers against Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and even women and also analyses the provisions brought forward in the constitution aimed at ensuring equality and inclusiveness. The conclusion of the paper is that higher education institutions and government policies are critical in promoting the value of social-justice, minimizing discrimination, and creating socially responsible citizens who will become part of a full, inclusive, democratic, and just society.
