Institutionalising Sustainability Governance and Community Engagement at Majmaah University: A Documentary Analysis in the Context of Vision 2030

Abstract

This study examines the institutionalisation of sustainability governance and community engagement at Majmaah University (MU) through a qualitative documentary case study. The analysis draws upon a range of strategic, organisational, and operational documents, supported by selected institutional quantitative data. The study is structured around four core pillars of Sustainable Institutional Governance (SIG): governance architecture, digital measurement and reporting, operational sustainability practices, and community engagement, complemented by a cross-cutting dimension of leadership and institutional capacity.

The findings indicate the emergence of a structured sustainability-governance ecosystem supported by dedicated governance arrangements, digital systems, operational sustainability initiatives, and institutional mechanisms for community engagement. The results further demonstrate that community engagement represents one of the most mature dimensions of sustainability governance at the university, supported by the Social Responsibility Observatory, volunteering-governance arrangements, partnership programmes, and measurable social-impact indicators.

The study concludes with a set of strategic recommendations while acknowledging limitations associated with its documentary design, the bounded nature of certain quantitative data, and the absence of stakeholder interviews.
