Abstract

The rapid evolution of Over-The-Top (OTT) has altered the media and entertainment sector through facilitating accessibility of media content to consumers through the internet without necessarily going through the traditional distribution units. In this paper, the theme of innovation, adoption of technology and transformations in industries, will be assessed in terms of how OTT platforms can facilitate sustainable business models that can be aligned with SDG 9: Innovation and Industry. In this research, the strategies followed by the large OTT services are utilized to ascertain how digital innovation, content monetization, and operational sustainability fits in long term growth. Findings have revealed that the OTT systems are data informed with scalable cloud computing and eco-friendly production strategies that are driving innovation within the sector. The paper dwells on the opportunities which were created by OTT ecosystems to create an entertainment sector that is sustainable and resilient in assisting to spur economic development and technological advancement.
