Abstract

The growing ecological crisis, accelerating climate change, and increasing ethical challenges associated with globalization have prompted scholars and policymakers to search for alternative frameworks that promote sustainable living and responsible human conduct. Among the philosophical traditions that offer valuable insights into these concerns, Daoism presents a distinctive worldview centered on harmony, balance, and the interconnectedness of all forms of existence. This study reinterprets key Daoist concepts, including Dao (the Way), Wu Wei (effortless action), and Ziran (naturalness), to explore their relevance in addressing contemporary environmental and ethical issues. Using a qualitative and literature-based research approach, the paper examines classical Daoist texts alongside modern scholarly discussions on sustainability and global ethics.

The analysis reveals that Daoist philosophy encourages a non-exploitative relationship with nature, emphasizing moderation, simplicity, and respect for ecological processes. These principles align closely with contemporary sustainability objectives that seek to balance human development with environmental preservation. Furthermore, Daoist perspectives on interdependence and harmony provide an ethical foundation for fostering global cooperation, social responsibility, and cross-cultural understanding in an increasingly interconnected world. By bridging ancient philosophical wisdom with present-day sustainability discourse, this study demonstrates that Daoist thought remains highly relevant for addressing complex global challenges. The paper argues that a renewed engagement with Daoist principles can contribute to the development of more holistic approaches to sustainable living and global ethics, offering both theoretical insights and practical guidance for individuals, communities, and policymakers.
